B1 steam locomotive to haul new Steam Dreams railtour in the Summer

On Tuesday 9 April 2019, 61306 Mayflower will be arriving into London Waterloo as part of a new steam train service.

The new service will run every Tuesday from 4th June to 3rd September. These new summer steam train tours include one-way trips to Windsor and evening dining trains from London's Waterloo Station.

The Royal Windsor Steam Express will leave Waterloo at 08.00, 11.10 and 14.10 every Tuesday.

On the same day, The Sunset Steam Express will leave London's Waterloo Station at 18.00 for passengers to enjoy a round trip journey through English Countryside whilst being served a delicious meal on the way.

Tickets for the Royal Windsor Steam Express cost from £35 for Standard Class tickets, up to £85 per person for the Pullman Style Dining carriage with champagne brunch.

Snacks and drinks are available throughout the rest of the train, with picnics also being welcome.

Dining tickets for the Sunset Steam Express start from £99 per person in Premier Dining up to £129 per person travelling Pullman Style Dining; a private compartment for four with dinner costs £449. A Standard Class non-dining ticket costs £49 per person, picnics are welcome and the train also offers drinks and snacks to purchase.

Chairman of , David Buck commented;

“This year, Steam Dreams celebrates its 20th Anniversary and to mark this special anniversary we are delighted to be able to offer these new itineraries which hark back to the early days of Steam Dreams when we ran regular journeys to Canterbury and Salisbury.”

He added: “By making steam travel on the main line more accessible to young people based in London, we hope to foster a new generation of steam enthusiasts.”

  • Saw the item on BBC news, delighted to see one of my old Eurostar drivers Peter Roberts at the controls of Mayflower, as an old Southern man it must be good for him to get hold of a decent ex-LNER loco, I hope he does’nt break it! (-although we do have 61264 as a back up!) A bold venture, deserves to succeed.
