The team overhauling Merchant Navy 35005 “Canadian Pacific” has been busy during March on reassembling the slidebars and bottom-end.

Slidebars

There has been difficulty in measuring 35005’s slidebars. The reading obtained appeared to be quite wrong, so the team singled out the equipment as the issue.

Amendments were made at Ropley, and another sets of measurements were taken. These were far more accurate and showed that both the middle and right-hand slidebar need taking off and adapted.

To counter the outside cylinder horizontal measurements which are out, adjustments will be made to the crosshead, which will be machined soon.

Bogie and Trailing Truck

Both the bogie and trailing truck have brought up to Eastleigh Works. Weighing in at roughly 11 tons combined, a haulage company was hired to transport them. When available, the overhead crane will be used to bring them to the rest of ‘Can Pac’.
