Where and when to see steam locomotive 60163 Tornado in Carlisle this Saturday

Steam locomotive 60163 ‘Tornado’ will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle and Crewe on Saturday 16th March 2019.

The A1 locomotive is hauling ‘The Cumbrian Mountaineer’ from Carlisle to Crewe.

The railtour departs Cardiff behind a diesel locomotive at approximately 05:45 am.

The railtour will then make stops at Newport (06:03), Cwmbran (06:19), Abergavenny (06:43), Hereford (07:17), Leominster (07:35), Ludlow (07:50), Craven Arms (08:04), Shrewsbury (08:38), Crewe (09:17), Preston (10:12), Penrith (11:29) and finally arriving in to Carlisle at 11:54.

Here, 60163 ‘Tornado’ will be added to the front of the train for the return trip as far as Crewe. The train will depart at 14:15, steaming down the S&C to Appleby (15:01) then 60163 will continue southbound from Appleby going non stop to Blackburn (17:18). After Blackburn, the tour will then rejoin the WCML and head non stop south to Crewe where 60163 will be taken off of the train, whilst diesel traction rejoins the tour. Continuing from Crewe, the tour calls at the same stations as on the outbound trip.

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of Cardiff Central at 23:10.
