The Severn Valley Railway has announced that No.7 Typhoon has arrived at the Highley Visitor Centre.
Typhoon can be found on display next to No.600 ‘Gordon' in the museum.
Is the locomotive out of ticket? I hear you ask… The answer to that would be no. The reason for the visit is that the locomotive isn't needed this season at the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. So instead of sitting in a shed for the year, its better for the locomotive to promote the RHDR.
There is a massive difference in size when compared to Gordon, you can see the locomotive and size difference for yourself at the upcoming Spring Steam Gala, this weekend!
A brief history of No.7 Typhoon
Typhoon is based on the Henry Greenly Pacifics Green Goddess, Northern Chief and Southern Maid, however, Typhoon differs slightly in the fact that she has three cylinders. Before being delivered new to New Romney shed in May 1927, the locomotive posed for publicity photographs with 60103 (4472) ‘Flying Scotsman'. Over the years, the locomotive has received a number of upgrades, like a superheated boiler in 1958 and smoke deflectors in 1955. Typhoon appears in BR Brunswick Green and is in regular service.
