Steam locomotive 48151 in Carlisle this Saturday

Steam locomotive 48151 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle and Hellifield on Saturday 2nd March 2019.

The 8F locomotive is on a special railtour tomorrow. 48151 are hauling the Settle Carlisle Thunderer I on Saturday.

The railtour departs Peterborough behind a diesel locomotive at approximately 06:00 am.

The railtour will then leave Peterborough, bound for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Grantham (06:30), Newark North Gate (06:48), Retford (07:08), Doncaster (07:31) and Skipton (09:25) before arriving at Hellifield Goods Loop at 09:41.

Here, 48151 will be added to the front of the train. The train will depart with the at 10:25, steaming through Settle (10:35) and Appleby (11:35), it will go non stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 13:04.

After around 2 hours in Carlisle, 48151 will depart Carlisle at 15:20 bound for Peterborough. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (15:48) and will stop for water at Appleby (16:11).

Continuing down the Settle and Carlisle line, the locomotive will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approx 17:10, continuing to Settle, the train comes off the Settle and Carlisle line at Settle Junction (17:25) where it heads for Hellifield, where 48151 is replaced by a diesel locomotive.

The diesel locomotive will take the same path back to Peterborough, calling at Skipton (18:34), Doncaster (20:22), Retford (20:47), Newark North Gate (21:24) and Grantham at 21:44.

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of Peterborough at 22:13.
