Network Rail has announced that they have successfully completed a project to install a new bridleway bridge over the railway in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
The new bridge was opened on Friday 29th March to replace Kings Mill Lane level crossing which has now closed.
The crossing was chosen for closure due to the number of trespass and vandalism incidents.
The new footbridge means that pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders will no longer have to cross the railway using the level crossing. The bridge is also ramped, which will cater for pushchairs and those with additional access needs.
What did the officials say?
Andrew Murray, Director of Route Asset Management for Network Rail, said:
“Safety is our top priority, so we are glad that this vital project to improve railway safety in Nottinghamshire has now completed.
“The footbridge will provide a safer route across the railway for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders and we look forward to them reaping the benefits.
“We would like to thank all those living in the area for their patience whilst the construction of the footbridge took place.”
