Great Western Railway has announced details of a farewell charity railtour for their Class 43 HSTs as they bow out of service after 40 years.
The charity railtour will be run on 1 June 2019.
The farewell train will go from Bristol – Paddington – Oxford – Hereford – Abergavenny – Carmarthen – Paddington via Gloucester, then finishing with a non-stop trip to Plymouth.
Tickets for this special farewell tour of the HST on the Western will be going on sale at Long Rock Open Day.
This is a once in a lifetime trip, so be sure to attend the open day to grab your tickets.

One would hope so !! The Class 43 has proven to be a well developed user occupier freindly way to travel unlike the newer generation of cattle stock with silver windows like the Peak its been super reliable and a well developed capable BR design with upgrades .
The end of travel in style to Penzance and the Great Road to the West .
Its a shame we never saved a Blue Pulman !!
Some of the former GWR Class 43 HSTs might be cascaded to ScotRail to join with the Class 43s “In7ercity” Mk3 Units but could also be operated on the Fife Circle Line routes (Edinburgh Waverley-Markinch (via Burntisland and/or via Dunfermline Town). With Hull Trains hiring the Class 43 HSTs Mk3 Units until the Class 802 IETs are introduced in service later this year and will be replacing the Class 43 HST and Class 180 DEMU units.
Or perhaps cascade some of the Class 43s to be used in North Wales to help boost more services on the North Wales line. And to cascade some to Crosscountry and East Midlands Trains.
