Class 41 locomotive set for Severn Valley visit

The Severn Valley Railway has announced that prototype High-Speed Train, the Class 41, is set to visit for their Spring Diesel Festival.

The 41 joins Class 25 No. D7535, Class 31 No. 97205, Class 33 No. 33108, Class 37 No. 37688, Class 40 No. 40106 Atlantic Conveyor, Class 44 No. D4 Great Gable, Class 46 No. 46010 and Class 55 ‘Deltic' No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier.

The Spring Diesel Festival will be held from the 16th – 18th May 2019

41001 appears thanks to the National Railway Museum and the 125 Group. The locomotive will be bringing 5 MK3 carriages with her to haul a typical train up the Severn Valley.

A brief history of 41001

41001, and sister power car, 41002, were the prototype HST power cars of 1972. 41001 is now part of the national collection and is operational on the Great Central Railway Nottingham, the power car is the last surviving power car as its sister power car was scrapped and other power cars re-numbered 43XXX. 41001 is famous for passing the UK rail and world diesel speed record in 1973 at 123.2mph.
