Thurrock Council and c2c have announced that they have started a joint redevelopment of Stanford-le-Hope station.
Work to demolish the 1960s ticket office and booking hall has now started. This is in preparation for building a new station including lifts, improved passenger facilities and integrated pedestrian, cycle and bus links.
The station will remain open and operational throughout these works. Passengers will be diverted through an alternative entrance at the end of the London-bound platform while the ticket office is being dismantled.
Customers will continue to be able to purchase a normal range of tickets. The ticket machines have been relocated and one is now positioned on each platform.
These can be used to purchase most tickets and to collect tickets bought online. Meanwhile, at times c2c staff will also be selling tickets using handheld devices. A summary of how you can buy the ticket you want is below.
New validators for Smartcards are also being fitted onto the platforms as a priority.
The station will continue to be staffed throughout the hours of service, with our staff providing information and customer service throughout.

Why not just knock down the station and rebuild it. Along with a new bay platform so that c2c can operate the Fenchurch Street-Stanford-le-Hope service via Ockendon or via Rainham. That could improve the service on c2c.
What about adding lifts at stations on the c2c network that aren’t step free accessible such as at Benfleet, Chalkwell, Westcliff and stations on the Greater Anglia Southend Victoria line including Prittlewell, Rochford, Hockley, Rayleigh and Wickford stations that aren’t step-free accessible and could have footbridges replaced with new ones and with lifts installed. Wickford probably needs it as its a small interchangeable station where you can catch the Southminster train.
