The team overhauling London Midland and Scottish Railway Stanier Class 5 5025 at the Strathspey Railway have hit another milestone in returning the engine back to steam.

Tender

Despite the cold winter weather, good progress has been made on rebuilding the tender for 5025.

Firstly, the frame was given a coat of paint, which then allowed for steps next to the rear buffer beam to be reattached.

With good access to the frame without its tank top, reassembly of the brake gear, vacuum and steam heat pipework has started.

Once the frame was ready, the new tank top was brought into the workshop to be lifted.

After some minor alignment issues were resolved, the tender's frame and tank top rolled out of the workshop for the first time and paired with the rolling chassis of 5025.
