The Talyllyn Railway has announced that they have completed the purchase of a piece of land that is next to the railway.

The land includes an area known as ‘The Orchard' which includes 0.6 acres of overgrown land next to the yard at Pendre.

This sale also means the purchase of two cottages; one with two bedrooms and the other with four.

The reason for this purchase was to protect the railway from any residential development. However, it does fall in line with plans for expansion and the improvement of its engineering facilities.

Additionally, the cottages offer the possibility for additional volunteer accommodation which has been looked into.

The current Llechfan accommodation is designed as ‘bunkhouse' accommodation and refurbishment of the cottages may offer more flexible accommodation for couples and families.

What did the officials say?

Stuart Williams, the Railway's General Manager, says:

“We have sought to purchase this property over many years and so we are delighted to have been able to acquire it at this time. This acquisition allows us to consider many options when it comes to engineering developments and the possibility of additional volunteer accommodation. However, having completed the purchase we don't have constraints on time, and can consider all the options carefully in consultation with all the parties involved.”
