The Snowdon Mountain Railway has announced that they will be reopening again on Friday 15th March (weather permitting) and will taking passengers up to Clogwyn.
Clogwyn is 3/4 of the way up the mountain until they can reach the summit again in May (date TBC).
The line has been closed through the winter as the weather is far too bad for the line to run.
The narrow gauge line gets covered in snow and the views would be restricted 90% of the time. And besides, the Welsh weather is unpredictable even in the height of summer!
At the moment, only early bird tickets are available online for the trips to Clogwyn.
Fares are as follows:
- Adults – £17
- Children – £11
- Adult + infant under the age of 3 sitting on accompanied adults lap – £17

The SMR has been taking passengers to the summit of Snowdon for 100 years and is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the UK.
The building of the line began in December 1894 and was completed in February 1896. The line was officially opened on 6th April 1896 however this was shadowed by a fateful accident in which a loco lost the rack and ran away down the hill. Over the years, the line and rack have been improved to meet modern health and safety standards.
Nowadays, the line climbs up the steep gradients using specially designed locos with angled boilers to keep the water in the right places and offers passengers the spectacular views in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain from the comfort and quirk of this iconic railway.
