The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has announced that Class 31 97205 (31163) will be visiting the line for their Mixed Traffic Gala.

31163 follows on from the recent announcement of the Prototype HST for the railway's Diesel and Mixed Traffic event.

31163 is currently wearing British Railways Research livery, which is unique and is from a similar era to that of 41001.

The locomotive is visiting thanks to the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway.

A brief history of 31163

31163 was built by Brush Traction for British Railways in 1960. It worked in the United Kingdom on the mainline up until 1999 when it was withdrawn from traffic. Since then, it has been preserved by the Midland Railway Centre, at Butterley, however, is now approaching the end of a long time out of action, and is set to return to traffic at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway Diesel Gala on the 5th – 7th April 2019.
