Northern has announced that the first refurbished Class 333 has entered service in West Yorkshire.
The train operators plan to refurbish its fleet of trains is still on track.
The train operates across West Yorkshire and now has a new livery, refreshed interiors with newly refurbished seats, and new LED lighting.
Northern passengers, who travelled on the updated train for the first time this week, were hugely impressed with the work stating that it “looks like a new train” and that it was “very bright and clean, a welcomed improvement.”
The Class 333 unit is scheduled to go through a further phase of refurbishment to add further improvements at a later date.
The first of Northern's 101 brand new trains are now undertaking test runs on routes in the North West and are scheduled to start passenger service this year.
What did the officials say?
Jenny Dempsey, Refurbished Trains Project Manager, said:
“The refurbishment programme has had a flying start to the year, and it's always great when we complete a milestone like a first in class.
“We are working incredibly hard to deliver the promised refurbished trains and have completed improvements on around half of our current fleet – the remainder planned for completion by 2020.”

It is about time there was a push to reopen the Pennine rail tunnels and rejoin Lancashire to Yorkshire !
Very much a push to get the Colne to Skipton branch open!
I think Northern should keep the Class 333s and perhaps inherit the Class 332s from Heathrow Express which they would use them on suburban services in & out of Leeds including operating on the Leeds-Doncaster line. With Class 331s also to be operated on services across the Leeds area and perhaps to electrify the North Pennine Line between Leeds & York with a new flyover at Colton Junction for trains passing over the East Coast Main Line.
