The Ffestiniog Railway has announced that two locomotives will be heading to London this February to celebrate their heritage.
183 years ago, the Ffestiniog Railway opened for business, initially it opened to carry slate from the quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog to the sea at Porthmadog.
Fast forward those years, the railway forms the longest heritage railway alongside its sister railway, the Welsh Highland Railway, and makes a narrow gauge dream of 40 miles stretching from Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog via the interchange at Porthmadog.
The railways carry nearly 400,000 passengers each year and trains cover 63,500 miles, equal to more than two and a half times around the world at the Equator.
This year at King's Cross, the railway will be focusing on their heritage with two locomotives visiting the capital in the form of ‘Quarry Hunslet' Velinheli, and Chaloner, a vertical boiler locomotive built in 1877.
Chaloner is appearing at the event thanks to the Leighton Buzzard Railway.
The locomotives will be rolled into King's Cross Station at 0100 on Saturday, February 16th, and will be on display in the ticket hall until Sunda,y February 24th.
