The first Intercity Express train to work the 1C91 service from London Paddington to Paignton arrived yesterday, and we have been lucky enough to be sent in some images from this milestone.

Great Western Railway is investing in new trains for the south, with Class 800s and 802s replacing the Class 43 High-Speed Trains, which are now 40 years old.

The routes that 800s and 802s take are expanding, although HSTs are still in service today alongside the IETs.

Class 802 209 had the honours of being the first IET to Paignton on 1C91, the 17:33 London Paddington to Paignton service.

Thanks to Charlie Greasley, we have got some superb shots of the train upon its arrival at Paignton, and a view of it ready for departure with 2A65 2135 Paignton to Newton Abbot.

  • I actually like the Class 800 and Class 802 that GWR have got. Shame that LNER won’t be using the Class 800 and Class 801 Azuma until summer this year and with Transpennine Express and Hull Trains who ordered the Class 802s will not be using their new fleets until Summer or Late this year.
