The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway has announced that prototype High-Speed Train, the Class 41, is set to visit for their Diesel Gala and Mixed Traffic Weekend.
The 41 joins 50 031 ‘Hood' and 50 049 ‘Defiance' at the event alongside all home fleet diesel and steam locomotives.
The Diesel and Mixed Traffic Weekend will be held on May Bank Holiday, from the 3rd May to the 6th May 2019.
41001 appears thanks to the National Railway Museum and the 125 Group. The locomotive will be bringing 5 MK3 carriages with her to haul a typical train up the Worth Valley.
A brief history of 41001
41001, and sister power car, 41002, were the prototype HST power cars of 1972. 41001 is now part of the national collection and is operational on the Great Central Railway Nottingham, the power car is the last surviving power car as its sister power car was scrapped and other power cars re-numbered 43XXX. 41001 is famous for passing the UK rail and world diesel speed record in 1973 at 123.2mph.
