Steam locomotive in Chester this Saturday – where and when to see it!

Steam locomotive 34052 Lord Dowding will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Chester on Saturday 15th December 2018.

The Light Pacific locomotive is on a special railtour tomorrow. 34052 is hauling ‘The Chester Chuffer’ railtour on Sunday.

The train will depart behind a diesel locomotive from Salisbury at approximately 06:45 am.

The railtour will then leave Salisbury, bound for Chester, where it will make stops at Westbury (07:13), Bath Spa (07:38), Bristol Parkway (08:19), Cam and Dursley (08:42), Cheltenham Spa (09:04), Worcester Shrub Hill (09:27), Kidderminster (09:58), Stourbridge Junction (10:11) and Bescot Up and Down Goods at 10:55.

Here, 34052 is attached to the front of the train, and will then head via Stafford (12:16), Madeley (12:32) and Crewe (12:42) before arriving into Chester at 13:29.

Passengers will then spend a couple of hours in Chester, after which Lord Dowding will depart for Salisbury at 16:40. The train returns via Wrexham General (16:58), Shrewsbury (17:39), Telford Central (18:20), Wolverhampton (19:04), Bescot Up and Down Goods (19:16 – 34052 replaced by diesel here), Stourbridge Junction (20:31), Kidderminster (20:44), Worcester Shrub Hill (21:07), Cheltenham Spa (21:32), Cam & Dursley (21:54), Bristol Parkway (22:16), Bath Spa (22:49), Westbury (23:19) and finally Salisbury at 23:50.
