Steam locomotive No.60009 Union of South Africa will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in York and Edinburgh on Saturday 8th December 2018.
The A4 locomotive is on a special rail tour from York to Edinburgh, ‘The Edinburgh Xmas Market’.
The steam locomotive will depart the York at approximately 06:20 am.
The railtour will then leave the York, bound for Edinburgh, where it will steam through Thirsk (06:50), Northallerton (07:09), Darlington (07:25), Durham (07:51), Newcastle (08:24), Almouth (09:30), Berwick-upon-Tweed (10:07), Drem (12:13)and Prestonpans (12:22) before arriving into Edinburgh at 12:36.
Departing Edinburgh at 17:34, the train will take the same route back to York. The train will steam through Prestonpans (17:47), Dunbar (18:06), Alnmouth (19:48), Newcastle (20:53), Durham (21:24), Thirsk (22:36) and finally York (23:03).
