The Dean Forest Locomotive Group has announced that they have purchased steam locomotive No.9682.

The group has purchased the Pannier Tank from the G.W.R. Preservation Group Ltd, who are based at Southall.

Also included in the deal is a Great Western Toad Brake Van which will be used alongside the existing stock of non-passenger vehicles.

The team has been busy recently getting the already dismantled 9682 ready for the move to Norchard, where it will join classmate 9681 in which its overhaul is progressing well and will return to service in 2019.

Unfortunately, most of the steam fittings with a value of £35,000 are missing, leaving the DFLG the task of sourcing or even manufacturing new ones.

A fundraising campaign is now being initiated, and if you would like to donate towards this project, then there is a number of ways to donate:

  • Send your donation in the post to
    • DFLG, Norchard Station, Lydney, Glos. GL15 4ET
  • Donate via the BT MyDonate page
  • Email
    • For more information, please email here.

Excellent to hear that this locomotive has a future, and we look forward to updates!
