c2c has announced that Upminster passengers are now benefitting from a £800,000 refurbishment that opened today.

The Platform 1 ticket office and waiting room have been rebuilt as part of the project. The scheme also includes a new coffee shop, which is opening soon.

also has further plans for Upminster station, this includes a project to modernise the station's main entrance and installing new ticket machines.

Last month c2c also submitted an application to the Department for Transport's Access for All fund to improve accessibility to Platform 6, the only platform at the station without a lift.

What did the officials say?

c2c Managing Director Julian Drury said:

“We hope our customers at Upminster agree this project has hugely improved the look and feel of the facilities available to them. This is the first step in our three-year plan to completely transform the quality of service we offer at our stations, and to ensure they are ready for the expected growth in passenger numbers over the next decade.”

Julia Lopez, MP for Hornchurch and Upminster, said:

“Since my election I have been campaigning for improvements at Upminster Station, such as the installation of train departure information screens for District Line services, and I was very happy to work with c2c in applying for Access for All funding to improve accessibility to Platform 6. I welcome the improvements that this refurbishment offers to passengers at Upminster Station.”

  • But what Upminster railway station needs is a new lift for platform 6 that will make platform 6 (London Overground Romford-Upminster) step free accessible.

If there are plans to replace the footbridge and to install a dedicated ramp with stairs or stairs with incline lift to access platform 6 so it makes it easier for disabled passengers and parents with babies on push prams and people with large luggage to use platform 6 to board the Romford bound train on platform 6.

As platforms 1-2 c2c and platforms 3-5 District Line (London Underground) are step free. I think that platform 6 at Upminster could become step free.
