Chiltern Railways has announced it has doubled the cycle parking at Warwick Parkway station.

The new facilities are thanks to funding from the Department for Transport and Warwickshire County Council.

The project significantly improves the cycle facilities at the station currently accessed by 6,500 cycle journeys a year.

As part of the work, LED lighting and CCTV has also been added to help with the security of the facility and deter cycle thieves.

What did the officials say?

Alan Riley, Customer Services Director at said:

“We're delighted to improve our cycling facilities for our customers at Warwick Parkway, which is part of our commitment to continuously improving in our stations.

“This new facility will make it easier for more of the surrounding villages to access rail journeys by bike and feel more confident they are leaving their bike in a secure facility.”

Councillor Jeff Clarke, portfolio holder for transport and planning, said:

”The county council is committed to sustainable travel and, where possible, helping to get cars off the roads.  Warwick Parkway's figures show that there is a real will to cycle to the station; these new spaces will mean that more people can do that and we can start to make a significant impact on the number of car journeys being made at peak times around the area of the station.”
