Members of Southern Locomotives Ltd (SLL) have been busy at Herston Works in overhauling their Rebuilt Bulleid West Country class No.34028 Eddystone.

Cylinders and Pipe Work

Firstly, re-boring work has been carried out on both outside cylinder valves, thanks to Bryn Engineering with their portable machine.

The middle cylinder valve, however, will be relined. Now this work has been completed, refitting of cylinder head studs can begin.

The vacuum pipes for the engine are now in the early stages of being reconstructed.

Boiler Cladding and Smokebox

Work has begun on overhauling the boiler cladding. This is in the early stages, with the paint being sanded back.

Initially, the current smokebox was going to be reused and repaired where necessary. On further inspection, the decision has been made to build a new one from scratch.
