Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly train service set to be split

From 09 December 2018, the XX:53 TransPennine Express train service from Leeds to Manchester Piccadilly via Huddersfield (XX:17 Manchester Piccadilly to Leeds) is set to split into two services, with services only going as far as Huddersfield in either direction.

This is said to be an attempt to improve reliability along the route, enabling express services to ‘overtake' this service in times of disruption.

Both services are also set to be downgraded from a ‘class 1' express train to a ‘class 2' stopping train.

TransPennine say that this change will mean the service will go back to how it was prior to TransPennine taking over the service from Northern as part of the May 2018 timetable change.

Further to this, the service may appear to be operated by Northern, due to TransPennine hiring Class 170 Diesel Multiple Units from the train operator, however, tickets are still valid for travel.

The XX:53 services from Leeds will now only call at: Cottingley (XX:58), Morley (XX:02), Batley (XX:06), Dewsbury (XX:09), Ravensthorpe (XX:12), Mirfield (XX:16), Deighton (XX:24), and Huddersfield (XX:31).

The XX:17 services from Manchester Piccadilly will now only call at: Stalybridge (XX:30), Greenfield (XX:36), Marsden (XX:44), Slaithwaite (XX:48), and Huddersfield (XX:55).

Passengers for stations after Huddersfield in either direction are advised to travel on TransPennine's express services to Huddersfield and then change. For more information, click here.

  • Don’t let Northern take over some services that are currently operated by Transpennine Express. Because Northern have caused so much discontent and misery to passengers with constant delays and cancellations because of the stupid strike action with guards and drivers. Rather let Crosscountry take over those routes that Transpennine Express is to split those services.

  • Northern dont wish to resolve the strike its cheaper not to run or run coaches shoul b relieved of franchise as German nationalisation dont work N
