The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway has announced that not one, but two steam locomotives will be visiting them for the 2019 summer season.
First up is A Class No. 52322, courtesy of the East Lancashire Railway and the locomotives owner, Andy Booth.
The A class will be visiting the line from 19th April 2019 until 16th June 2019, operating on the line on selected dates.
Secondly, BR Class 2 No.78018 will be visiting the line courtesy of the Loughborough Standards Locomotive Group (LSLG) and the Great Central Railway.
The Class 2 will be visiting the line from 15th June 2019 until the 8th September 2018, operating on the line on selected dates.
A brief history of 52322
52322 is an L&Y Railway Class 27 and is a 0-6-0 type of steam locomotive. They were built for freight work over the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. 52322 was built-in 1896 at Horwich Works as Lancashire & Yorkshire No. 1300, later being renumbered LMS 12322 and BR 52322 in its working life, the locomotive is now preserved and appears in BR Black with the number 52322. 52322 is the only survivor of the 484 strong class of steam locomotive.
Brief History of 78018
Restored in October 2016, 78018 is one of three preserved members of BR Standard 2 (2-6-0). A fourth member, 78059, was saved but has since been used in the reconstruction of a BR Standard 2 (2-6-2T). More information on this project can be found here
78018 has been owned by the Darlington Railway Preservation Societies since they bought it. They began a restoration program in 1981. The engine has been on hire to the Great Central Railway since 2018, with the Loughborough Standards Locomotive Group (LSLG) being custodians of the locomotive.
The locomotive has visited other heritage lines since restoration was completed, such as the Nene Valley Railway.

Just as a matter of clarification……. 78018 belongs to the Darlington Railway Preservation Society…….under who’s care the majority of the renovation was conducted over a period of 30+ years……she is housed at Loughborough where she runs on GCR.
