Greater Anglia has announced that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is now live at Cambridge rail station car park.

The system will make it easier for passengers to pay for parking. This is because it increases the variety of payment options available, and help to improve security.

Rail passengers can even pre-register their car and payment details online.

Cambridge is the second rail station to go live on the network after the system was successfully introduced at Ipswich station last year. It is also expected to be rolled out to Colchester, Shenfield and Broxbourne over the coming months.

Blue badge holders will continue to park for free, provided they register with NCP either online or by phone up within 24 hours of leaving the car park.

CCTV, signage and lighting at all extended car parks will also be improved.

What did the officials say?

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia Asset Management Director, said:

“We know customers who drive to stations want to be able to park as quickly and easily as possible, which is why we're committed to improving parking across the Greater Anglia network, making life a little easier for our customers.”

  • What about introducing ANPR at Norwich railway station. At least it’s a good idea that Greater Anglia is to introduce it at Ipswich, Cambridge, Colchester, Shenfield and Broxbourne stations.
