The East Somerset Railway has released a further update on the overhaul work currently taking place on steam locomotive 5239 Goliath.

Lots of progress has taken place in a number of areas since the last update.

Two patches in the boiler of the locomotive are now complete. This is now awaiting welding. The steel sections have been carefully cut out and have been shaped to give an extra 3mm gap all the way around.

This is the guarantee that the weld will penetrate the full thickness of the plate.

The locomotives bunker has also been progressing well. The remains of the old one is still being stripped.

All of the new laser cut parts are now ready to be assembled before being placed back on the locomotive.
