The Groudle Glen Railway has announced that, following months of rebuilding work, steam locomotive ‘Sea Lion' has now arrived home.
Sea Lion was withdrawn from service in 2017 following issues with her boiler. Initially, she was dismantled, with the boiler being sent to Bennett Boilers for repair.
The rest of the locomotive was then sent to North Bay Railway Engineering works in Darlington in Summer 2018 for overhaul and repair work.
Whilst in Darlington, a massive amount of work has been completed on the locomotive, this has included the installation of a new back cab sheet and stainless steel side tanks, blast pipe, new sheet boiler cladding and numerous other repairs to time expired or worn parts.
Sea Lion has now been repainted into her original 1896 livery with ‘Sea Lion' being in gold leaf lettering.
The locomotive will now have steam tests ahead of re-entering service at Christmas.
