Steam locomotive No.45170 to be named Sir William McAlpine

The 45170 Appeal has announced that they have been given permission to name 45710 after the late president of the SRPS – Sir William McAlpine.

Lady Judith McAlpine has kindly given permission for the group to name the locomotive after her late husband, who played a massive part in saving Flying Scotsman.

It is a big privilege for the group to honour Sir William McAlpine, he gave a massive contribution to steam preservation.

The 45170 are currently fundraising to purchase and restore 45170 back to steam condition.

This is excellent news to report on, Sir William was a brilliant man who gave a lot to British railway preservation.
