Steam locomotive 44871 in action this Half Term at the Swanage Railway

No. 44871 at Irwell Vale

The Swanage Railway has announced that steam locomotive 44871 will be hauling their trains this Half Term.

44871 has been a star visitor at ‘The Exchanges' gala, but will now be hauling regular passenger trains between 20th and 29th October using the railway's Blue Timetable.

The will be running 6 round trips a day between Swanage and Norden.

44871s visit is thanks to Riley & Sons (E) Ltd and West Coast Railways.

About 44871

44871 is owned by Ian Riley and is usually seen hauling mainline tours, such as “The Jacobites” in Scotland, from Fort William to Mallaig, with fellow Black 5 45407 ‘The Lancashire Fusilier' and K1 62005.

Returning from a recent overhaul in 2017, 44871 also spends time at heritage railways, such as the East Lancashire Railway.
