Great Western Railway has announced that it has launched a new jigsaw puzzle featuring their Class 800 Intercity Express Trains.

The jigsaw features one of the new trainsIntercity Express Train crossing the Royal Albert Bridge which spans the River Tamar linking Devon and Cornwall.

Great Western jigsaws are a popular tradition that dates back to the 1920s. They featured GWR locomotives and were sold for just a few shillings from station bookstalls.

Ron Westwater from Plymouth captured the image from Saltash on the Cornwall side of the iconic bridge ahead of the new Intercity Express Trains being launched into service earlier this year.

Waddingtons produced the jigsaws in partnership with GWR; reigniting a popular long-standing railway tradition between the two companies.

The 1,000 piece jigsaws are on sale now for £15.00 from www.gwrsouvenirs.co.uk.

What did the officials say?

Ron said:

“I'm thrilled to see the photograph I took of the new GWR Intercity Express Train crossing the Royal Albert Bridge being used for this new jigsaw puzzle. It's a real honour.”
