LNWR (H) has announced that steam locomotive No. 45231 The Sherwood Forester will not be able to haul ‘The Sugar Loaf Mountaineer’ this weekend.

The locomotive was set to haul the railtour which goes from Birmingham to Bynea via Shrewsbury (where 45231 would be attached).

Different problems were identified with 45231 earlier this year. This required recertification and repair before the locomotive was ready to run again.

A massive effort has been put into fixing these problems by the engineering teams at Southall and Crewe.

The locomotive was being worked up until late last night to try and make 45231 ready for the trip as planned.

However, some of these problems couldn’t be fixed in time and the team admitted defeat late last night.

This is a huge disappointment to all, including the engineers and support crew that was hoping to see 45231 on the mainline.

Hopefully, we will see 45231 on the mainline soon.
