The West Somerset Railway has announced that steam locomotive 80072 will be replacing 80104 at their upcoming Autumn Steam Gala.

Replacement

We announced this morning that the WSR had been advised that 80104 was unable to attend the gala because 30120 had failed, leaving the Swanage Railway short of locomotives.

Thankfully, another Standard 4 Tank has been found which can attend the gala. This time, Standard 4 Steam locomotive, No.80072 will join the guest line-up thanks to the Llangollen Railway.

A brief history of 80072

Brighton Works turned 80072 out in late 1953, like fellow class members only worked a short life, with 80072 being withdrawn in mid-1965.

Currently, the engine is based at the Llangollen Railway. 2019 will see the boiler ticket expire. The tank currently wears BR Lined Black with Late Crest.
