Stadler has announced that the first car bodies for CalTrain have arrived at their Salt Lake facility.

This marks milestones for in North America.

The CalTrain project is the biggest project that Stadler US has taken on in its two years in Salt Lake.

The train manufacturer was awarded the contract in 2016 to build 16 six-car KISS double-decker electric multiple-unit trains.

The contract also includes an option for an additional 96 cars.

Manufacturing of the car bodies takes place in Switzerland. Stadler US will then handle the final steps of assembly and commisioning in Utah.

The first car bodies arrived in Salt Lake City on Tuesday 5th September.

Due to their size, they directly rolled into Stadlers new facility, marking the first time that Stadler have used their new facility.

The CalTrain contract is part of the CalMod Project, which will electrify the corridor from San Francisco's 4th and King CalTrain station to the Tamien CalTrain station.
