LNWR Heritage has announced that they now have another Class 47 locomotive in operation to support the existing fleet.

D1924 ‘Crewe Diesel Depot’ has now been made operational to haul trains on the mainline and support steam locomotives on tours.

Crewe Diesel Depot was the name carried by two other Class 47 locomotives which were based at Crewe prior to D1924.

D1924 will out on the mainline soon and joins the current fleet of Class 47 locomotives at Crewe, these being D1733, D1935 ‘Roger Hoskings MA’ and D1944 ‘Craftsman’.

A brief history of D1924

D1924 was built by Brush Traction in 1966 at their Loughborough Works and was released into traffic on the 20th December 1966.

In 1967, D1924 hauled the final Bournemouth Belle from Bournemouth to London Waterloo on the last day of Southern Steam.
