The East Lancashire Railway has, unfortunately, had to replace 40012 Aureol with 40145 at their Autumn Diesel Gala after it has been confirmed that she has unfortunately failed.

It has been revealed that the Class 40 locomotive has had a failure of the B2 turbo.

The group who look after the locomotive have announced that all four turbos need overhauling badly, and with one turbo already giving up, it has been decided to take her out of service.

No other damage has been caused to the power unit.

The cost of the work is approximately £8,000, which is a massive amount of money to raise to fix the locomotive.

40012 has been a real crowd pleaser whilst at the East Lancs Railway, so it is sad to hear that it has been withdrawn.

It is hoped that 40012 Aureol will be fixed in time for next seasons trains.
