The East Somerset Railway has released an update into the Heritage Lottery funded project at Cranmore station to add a second platform.

The project has achieved a further milestone during August. The erection of a building in the same style as the old waiting room took place on the down platform – this will become a discovery centre.

Trotmans, a local builder, completed the first phase of the platform wall in June and cast the foundations for the new building.

Poultons, who is a Shaftesbury company, have won the contract to design and build the new Discovery Centre.

This phase of the project has been completed by a number of volunteers who have cleared the bramble jungle behind the platform retaining wall.

The next part of the project involves the fitting out of the building with lighting and heritage displays, a temporary path from the signal box to the new platform, and improvements to the track crossing at the signal box.

It is expected that the project will be completed by December 2018.
