The Bluebell Atlantic Group have released an update on the construction of new build steam locomotive No.32424 Beachy Head.

The boiler has been moved outside of Atlantic House for the final work to be completed. This is in preparation of the boiler having its hydraulic pressure test.

The rolled plates for the smokebox and the folded and flat parts required for the ashpan are all on order from outside contractors at present. The space made by the boiler moving outside will allow work to continue inside on these two items.

The group have been able to work on the crinolines, these will, in the future, support the boiler cladding sheets. The current plan is to assemble these parts, along with the smokebox door and ashpan, to the boiler. The clothing sheets will be temporarily be removed before a final hydraulic test is undertaken.

Work is currently progressing on piping up the locomotives tender chassis. This is before the fitting of the tank and coal space. Final drawings for these are in hand, with the assembly being completed by an outside contractor.

To allow the group to get the boiler out of Atlantic House, the tender chassis had to be wheeled out onto temporary extension track and be lifted clear.

This is the first time that the boiler has been outside since 2006. All holes have been blanked off and the safety valves fitted in preparation for the hydraulic test.
