ScotRail has announced that the number of passengers travelling to Dundee grew by 37% last weekend, as thousands of passengers took advantage of the extra train services for the official opening of the V&A in Dundee.

10,000 people attended the event on 14th September, and thousands more attended on the Saturday and Sunday.

An extra late-night train ran on Friday, with more than 50 trains on Saturday operating with extra seats.

More than 11,000 passengers travelled to and from Dundee over the three days, compared with 8,000 from the same weekend last year.

What did the officials say?

Head of Service Planning Dave Smith said:

“Throughout the year we increase capacity on trains and run additional services to support major events and the opening of the V&A was a fantastic opportunity to support our customers attending.

“We are delighted to see that so many people took advantage of the extra capacity on trains and were able to enjoy the experience over the weekend.

“The feedback has been very positive from customers and we will continue to boost services for events throughout the country in the coming months.”
