Where and when to see steam locomotive No. 60103 Flying Scotsman in Carlisle and Clitheroe this weekend

Steam locomotive 60103 Flying Scotsman will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle and Clitheroe on Saturday 4th August 2018.

The A3 locomotive is on a special railtour tomorrow. 60103 is hauling the Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.

The railtour departs Crewe behind a diesel locomotive at approximately 07:21 am.

The railtour will then leave Crewe, bound for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Sandbach (07:30), Wilmslow (07:56), Stockport (08:09), Manchester Victoria (08:48), Wigan North Western (09:30), Preston (09:55) before arriving at Carnforth Down and Up Goods Loop at 10:44.

Here, the world famous Flying Scotsman will be added to the front of the train. The train will depart with Flying Scotsman at 11:24, steaming through Oxenholme (11:43) and Penrith (12:21), it will go non stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 12:41.

After around 3 hours in Carlisle, Flying Scotsman will depart Carlisle at 15:30 bound for Crewe. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswalk (15:58) and will stop for water at Appleby (16:19).

Continuing down the Settle and Carlisle line, Flying Scotsman will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approx 17:19, continuing to Settle, the train comes off the Settle and Carlisle line at Settle Junction (17:34) where it heads for Hellifield, for a water stop, at 17:41.

From here, 60103 Flying Scotsman will pass through Clitheroe (18:28) and Blackburn (18:59) before arriving into Preston at 19:26.

At Preston, 60103 Flying Scotsman is taken off the train, and a diesel locomotive will take the same path back to Crewe, calling at Wigan North Western (20:09), Manchester Victoria (20:48), Stockport (21:31), Wilmslow at 21:55.

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of Crewe at 22:23.
