The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway has released an update on their project to extend the line to Pear Tree Lane crossing.
A bulldozer has been busy this week to level the track bed ready for workers to lay the track to the south.
The heritage railway operates on part of the route from Grimsby to Boston. This was closed back in 1970 by British Rail. The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway owns five miles of trackbed as far as the Industrial Estate at Louth, where a site has been set aside for a new station.
The long-term goal is to get the railway back to Louth. However, this is extremely expensive so the plan is to do work in stages. The overall cost of the 3/4 mile long extension to Pear Tree Lane is expected to be around £180,000. The next stage will be laying the ballast, however this need to be paid for – all 1,350 tons of the stuff.
