Steam locomotive in Settle and Carlisle this Tuesday – where and when to see it

Steam locomotive 45699 Galatea / 48151 will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Carlisle on Tuesday 28th August 2018.

The Jubilee or 8F locomotive is on a special railtour tomorrow. 45690 is hauling The Dalesman on Tuesday.

The railtour departs York behind a diesel locomotive at approximately 08:34 am.

The railtour will then leave York, bound for Carlisle, where it will make stops at Normanton (09:23), Wakefield Kirkgate (09:31) and Wakefield Westgate (09:38) before arriving at Leeds at 09:56.

Departing Leeds at 10:20, the train will head via Shipley (10:42), Keighley (10:58) and Skipton (11:14) to Hellifield Goods Loop, where either 45699 or 48151 is added to the train.

The train will depart with either 45699 or 48151 at 11:58, steaming through Ribblehead (12:23) and Kirkby Stephen (12:53), it will go non stop to Carlisle, where it will arrive at 14:21.

After around 2 hours in Carlisle, 45699 or 48151 will depart Carlisle at 16:34 bound for York. It will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswalk (17:04) and will stop for water at Appleby (17:26).

Continuing down the Settle and Carlisle line, 45699/48151 will pass over the Ribblehead Viaduct at approx 18:25, continuing to Settle, the train comes off the Settle and Carlisle line at Settle Junction (18:42) where it heads for Hellifield at 18:48.

At Hellifield, 45699/48151 is taken off the train, with a diesel locomotive taking the train for the remaining journey and will take the same path back to York, calling at Skipton (19:53), Keighley (20:08), Shipley (20:21), Leeds (20:44), Wakefield Westgate (21:11), Wakefield Kirkgate (21:15) and Normanton (21:24).

The railtour will arrive back at its final destination of York at 22:01.
