The Midland Railway – Butterley has announced that over the bank holiday weekend of the 25th to 27th August they will be running a very special vintage train.
The train will be made up of a superb collection of coaches, with most of them dating back to the 1800s.
The vintage train at the Midland Railway – Butterley operates twice a year, so it is rare to see these carriages out.
Two steam locomotives are planned to be in use on the day, the visiting Austerity 0-6-0 No. 68067 and “Whitehead” a Peckett 0-4-0 saddle tank.
Passengers who come in Victorian costume will be able to travel at a discount of 50%.
The narrow gauge Golden Valley Light Railway will also be running all weekend with its own historic restored coach from the Ashover Light Railway.
The train will be made up of:
- No. 78, a Midland Railway four-wheeled Third Class built in 1866.
- No. 253, a Midland Railway six-wheeled Brake Third built in 1884.
- No. 28, a Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway six-wheeled Third Class Coach built in 1896.
- No. 42608, a London, Midland and Scottish Railway horsebox built in 1948.
- No. 1910, a Midland Railway Royal Saloon built in 1912.
- No. 1260, a Midland Railway six-wheeled Family Saloon built in 1890.

“This is a great chance for visitors to travel in our historic coaches and experience train travel as it was in the 19th century. Each of these coaches has a fascinating story. They can also travel in a coach from the narrow gauge Ashover Light Railway, dating from the 1920’s.
