The Corris Railway has released an update on progress in several areas of the heritage railway and their revival.
Station Progress
During the August Summer holidays, the decision was taken to move the wall of the village school in Corris as the first stage for the development of the station area.
Following this, the boundary of the station site will be moved to create a run around facility. With the limitations of the site area at Corris, this will involve a traverser. This will mean that trains can be headed by a train in either direction, rather than propelling the train in a direction.
The use of the traverser is a necessity because the station is shared with the village car park.
Corris Building
Roof work has now been carried out on the former stable block building at Corris Station. This currently houses the railway museum and shop.
Windows have now also been replaced throughout the building. Some of the current windows have been salvageable and will be used in the future.
Maespoeth Junction
Inside the Carriage Workshop at Maespoeth Junction, further panels for carriage No. 23 have been delivered from home workshops and are now being fitted as part of its construction work.
A heritage wagon has now been stripped down for its restoration to begin, and a van has now been refurbished.
Maespoeth Junction station fencing is now also being repaired and repainted. An ongoing task by the railway due to the Welsh climate.
Steam locomotive Falcon No.10
Another step in the task of the construction of new steam locomotive, Falcon No.10, has been completed with the pony truck wheels being machined and the axle being manufactured.
The 12-inch diameter solid wheels cost £350 each, the axle costs £540 and the four bearings come in at a cost of £52 each. The pony truck has already been manufactured in the workshop by two volunteers. However, the main construction is being carried out by Alan Keef Ltd in Hay-On-Wye
