Greater Anglia has announced that Norwich rail passengers have helped to raise £10K for charity by supporting events by rail staff.

Nicola Garwood, who is Norwich Welcome Host, and the station team have put on a number of fundraising events since September 2016.

Some of the charities to benefit from the events are Macmillan, Sarcoma UK, British Heart Foundation, Age UK and the National Autistic Society.

This month, their total hit £10,000.

The team hold events such as coffee mornings and dressing up in crazy outfits, and they have even welcomed a therapy pony onto the concourse.

What did the officials say?

Nicola commented:

“We're in a great position, with so many people passing through the station, to help some fantastic charities achieve their aims and put a smile on so many people's faces. I'm delighted we've raised so much and so grateful to our amazing passengers and colleagues who have dug deep to support our fundraising events.

“I feel it's so important to be able to give something back and adds an extra dimension of satisfaction to working at the station.”

's Area Customer Service Manager, James Reeve, commented:

“Nicola and her team work tirelessly throughout the year raising awareness and donations for so many charities, while at the same time ensuring that all our customers are well looked after too. She's one in a million!”

  • Well done. It’s good to see how Norwich can benefit from with more people visiting the “Fine City” traveling from anywhere. I also travel to Norwich occasionally. Wonderful place.
