Network Rail are reminding passengers about the upcoming changes to services between Manchester and Preston via Bolton as they work to complete the upgrade of the railway.
The work is part of the Great North Rail Project and will mean that there will be a nine-day closure of the railway from 25th August until Sunday 2nd September 2018. Buses will be replacing trains.
Workers will also continue mid-week closures overnight until Sunday 4th November.
The Manchester-Bolton-Preston upgrade covers over 25 miles of track and infrastructure upgrades.
What did the officials say?
Martin Frobisher, managing director for Network Rail's London and North Western route, said:
“Our Manchester-Preston upgrade is part of the Great North Rail Project, the rail industry's plan to transform train travel for customers across the North through track and train improvements.
“This short-term disruption is necessary to complete these vital upgrades and it's important to remember the long-term improvements which will be delivered. In future electric-powered, greener, faster, more frequent, more spacious, more reliable trains will become the norm through the Bolton corridor.”

I think that the electrification on the Manchester-Preston line via Bolton could be completed after Christmas or early next year. Which will mean Northern Class 319, Class 331 and TPE Class 350/4 and Class 397 EMU’s will soon be using the newly electrified line between Manchester Victoria and Preston. Aswell current DMU trains.
