East Midlands Trains are urging passengers to plan ahead as more changes to trains are being introduced from Saturday 25th August 2018 as the Derby Resignalling project continues.

In the early hours of the 25th August 2018, work will begin to replace the track north of the station. This means that trains between Matlock and Derby will now be able to run. Replacement services will be in operation until the 7th October 2018. Full timetables can be found by clicking here.

Some stations are now suitable for bus replacement services. This means that buses will pick up and drop off in different locations.

Work at the southern end of the station is expected to be completed by the early hours of Monday 3rd September. This means services to and from Crewe as well as CrossCountry services will be able to run to and from Derby again.

What did the officials say?

Rob McIntosh, Route Managing Director at Network Rail, said:

“This footage really shows the scale of the work taking place on this huge investment into the railway in Derby.

“Our teams are working round the clock on this upgrade which will provide more reliable and punctual journeys for passengers and will ensure we can continue to provide a modern railway which meets the needs of the communities and economies our railway serves.

“We appreciate that projects of this scale can be disruptive and we thank passengers for their continued patience and encourage them to check before they travel.”

Adam Piddington, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Trains, said:

“It is fantastic to see how quickly the work is progressing at the southern end of Derby station.

“However, there are further changes to services in the meantime and from Saturday 25th August through until 7th October there will not be any East Midlands Trains services between Derby and Matlock while the track and signalling to the north of Derby station is replaced.

“We understand these changes will have an impact on those travelling throughout this time but we have worked hard with Network Rail to provide the best possible alternatives for customers.

“We are adding extra wayfinding on the route for customers, providing customer service staff on every vehicle and increasing the frequency of services to provide more options for customers. We will also have extra vehicles on standby, particularly for the Matlock Illuminations firework displays.

“We are very grateful for the support and patience of our customers and look forward to the successful completion of these upgrade works.”

  • Its good that Derby needs a huge improvement to the station as well reducing the bottleneck where trains comes in and out of Derby station with new signalling and track improvements.
