The Great Central Railway has announced that they will be running 4 steam locomotives alongside 2 diesel locomotives and a DMU this weekend to celebrate 50 years since the Fifteen Guinea Special.

The heritage railway will be running steam trains for the full length of the line from Loughborough and Leicester. They have recently had to run a shorter length of the line due to a period of hot and dry weather in Leicestershire.

The locomotives will be running a busy timetable. They will be celebrating 50 years since the famous Fifteen Guinea Special, which marked the end of steam on British Railways.

The steam locomotives that will be in action this weekend will be 70013 Oliver Cromwell, BR Standard Class 5 73156 as 73069, 8F 48624 as 48476, BR Standard Class 2 78018.

These steam locomotives will be supported by Peak Type 4 D123 (subject to completion of repairs), Sulzer Type 2 D5185. The Metro Cammell Diesel Railcar will also be in operation.

Oliver Cromwell is famous for hauling the Fifteen Guinea Special. The is the only place to travel behind this special locomotive on the anniversary of the original Fifteen Guinea Special.
