Dozens of services cancelled on the Northern network this Sunday

Northern has announced details of cancellations to train services on Sunday 26th August 2018 in the North West.

have chosen the train services to minimise the impact on passengers.

The routes that are most affected are Liverpool, Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

In these areas, engineering works have caused difficulties in short-term notice scheduling of train crews.

Planned cancellations are as follows:

  • Blackpool South – Colne cancellations
    • One train every two hours between Blackpool South and Colne. Some replacement bus services will be available.
    • Northern recommend travelling to Blackpool North from Burnley Manchester Road, Accrington or Blackburn.
  • Lancaster – Morecambe – part cancellations
    • Two-part cancellations between Morecambe and Heysham Port. Taxis will be provided for customers travelling between the port and Lancaster.
  • Warrington – Manchester Airport
    • Hunts Cross to Liverpool Lime Street closed due to existing engineering works.
    • Passengers will be able to travel on the Northern stopping service from Warrington into Manchester.
    • Passengers for Manchester Airport should change at Manchester Oxford Road.
  • Blackpool North – Liverpool
    • Passengers travelling to Preston and Blackpool from Liverpool should change at Wigan North Western, then take the Blackpool – Manchester Airport Northern Service.
    • Passengers travelling between Blackpool and stations to Liverpool should change at Wigan North Western.
  • DalesRail services
    • The 8.40am Blackpool North – Carlisle is cancelled.
    • The 17:25 Carlisle – Leeds service is now the 17:48 and will make additional stops along the Dales Rail route

Anyone whose journey is delayed by 30 minutes or more can apply for compensation via Delay Repay. Details of which can be found here.

  • I find Northern disgraceful. Literally. They suppose to run good reliable services across its network. But all they seem to do is to have more strikes which is affecting passengers and businesses that are being affected because of Northern not being able to provide good journeys and with so many delays and cancellations happening like everyday or every week is putting the pressure on people who want to commute by train from places in the North of England that is vital.

    I think Northern should expire and let the government take over. Why would Arriva take over the Northern franchise which they have caused non-stop dilemma. As Arriva still manages the Grand Central and Chiltern Railways franchises and they are about to lose the Welsh franchise to KeliosAmey in October with new trains to be built for Wales in the upcoming years ahead.
