The Churnet Valley Railway has announced that their upcoming October steam gala will now be a home fleet only event now due to unavailability of a few of the booked guest locomotives.

Small Prairie No. 4555's overhaul at the Dartmouth Steam Railway will not be finished in time for the gala. 7F No.53808 is also not available due to the ongoing locomotive shortages at the West Somerset Railway.

With these two locomotives out for the October gala, the have decided to cancel the visit of LNWR Webb Coal Tank No. 1054 from the Bahamas Locomotive Society / Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

These locomotives are hoped to visit the Churnet Valley Railway in the future.

The Gala will now be a home fleet event seeing the launch of both Class 33 No. 33021 and Class 08 No.08633 displaying new liveries.

The lineup for the gala is:

  • USATC S160 5197
  • TKH 2944 ‘Hotspur'
  • Class 33 33102 ‘Sophie'
  • Class 33 33021
  • Class 08 08333

It is still an impressive lineup, with two locomotive launches. We would still recommend a visit to the CVR!
